Carl Beech

The Daily Mail's campaign exposed the criminal justice scandal surrounding the VIP child sex abuse fantasist Carl Beech, aka "Nick."

The paper built on four years of reporting by revealing "Nick" to be a suspected serial liar and later a paedophile, producing a series of sensational scoops and hard-hitting pieces, after Beech was jailed for 18 years.

This included an exclusive in which a retired High Court judge, who investigated the Met's Operation Midland inquiry, went public with his concerns about the case, alleging detectives had carried out unlawful searches on the homes of innocent VIPs.

In a spread, headlined 'Warrant for Disgrace', Stephen Wright went into detail about how police had given a judge misleading information about the credibility of Nick.

Wright also led investigations into the police watchdog's "whitewash" inquiry that cleared the Met. Home Secretary Priti Patel ordered an Inspectorate probe into the Nick case, while the Home Affairs Select Committee launched an inquiry into the police watchdog.
