End The Dementia Care Cost Betrayal

The Daily Mail launched a campaign to highlight the social care crisis in Britain. Dementia is not diagnosed as a medical condition and the burden falls on families both to arrange care and, in many cases, pay for it.

The Mail launched a petition, which was signed by 356,000 readers, and later delivered to Downing Street.

The Mail told the stories of families forced to sell their homes, publishing readers' letters telling of their experiences. Within days, the campaign drove social care to the top of the political agenda after years of inaction.

On his first day as Prime Minister, Boris Johnson pledged to end the social care crisis "once and for all." The Mail’s coverage also attracted the support of celebrities, academics, doctors, charities and MPs from across the political spectrum.
