Be A Tree Angel

In 2019, the Daily Mail launched its Be A Tree Angel campaign to kick-start a national tree-planting movement that has since raised over £1.5 million, securing funding for 5,500 orchards for schools and over 70,000 new trees.

The Mail launched editorial coverage, a dedicated campaign website, regular video updates on MailPlus and an active social media campaign.

The campaign was supported by readers and environmental bodies, such as Friends of the Earth, The RSPB, The Woodland Trust and a host of public figures. Prime Minister Boris Johnson later unveiled plans for the Conservative Party to plant 30 million trees a year.

Network Rail also pledged £1 million to tree-planting and The National Trust announced plans for 42 new forests "the size of Sherwood." The Mail also donated a forest of 20,000 Christmas spruce saplings.
