Hyde Park Justice

The Sun’s Hyde Park Injustice Campaign sought to right the injustice of the 1982 Hyde Park bombings. By 2017, no one had been held to account.

In 2013, a man had been arrested and on the eve of his Old Bailey trial in 2014, his lawyers produced a letter from the UK Government in 2007 telling him he was not wanted by police. The trial judge ruled the letter rendered him immune from criminal prosecution and scrapped the trial.

The Sun then backed the families of the bombing victims by raising £85,000 to cover their legal costs for a civil action in the High Court.

In 2019, a judge ruled the man had been an "active participant" in the "wicked, premeditated attack." The historic ruling meant that finally someone had been held responsible for the Hyde Park bombing.
